Mobile Apps Making the World a Better Place

If you are a non-profit organization that can benefit from one of these social impact apps, an investor or business interested in partnering with Shockoe to publish these apps, or simply want us to keep you informed of our progress, fill out the form and we will reach out.

Enabling Communities to protect the Mesoamerican Reef

The Roatan Marine Park (RMP) started as a grass roots, community based, not-for-profit organization located on the island of Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras. Shockoe partnered with Roatan Marine Park to create a tool for citizens and marine patrol staff to work together to protect the world's second largest barrier reef system.

We worked closely with the Roatan Marine Park employees to create a mobile application that would augment their patrol staff by allowing citizens to be RMP’s eyes and ears.

RMP iPatrol allows citizens to capture images and videos to submit alongside 3 types of reports for illegal activities: poaching, environmental incidents such as dredging, destroying reef or sea grass and boating (people anchoring on the reef). There is also an emergency contact to call immediately. Reports received from the app can be pinpointed via map using real time GPS or a list of popular locations. Most importantly, perhaps, is that it delivers perfectly on RMP's mission to empower the local community.

Pioneering Digital Arts

VCU Music Professor Susanna Klein, approached Shockoe to develop and test V-Coach, an iPad app that puts specific tools of deliberate practice and reflection into the hands of practicing violinists and violists.

V-Coach is a pioneering digital arts technology designed to bring a healthier, more mindful, and more deliberate approach to musicians’ personal practice by allowing the musicians to self-regulate their practice habits.

The V-Coach project encompasses the development of meaningful digital feedback mechanisms, field testing among college music majors and their mentors, and progress assessment. V-Coach is a unique collaboration between Shockoe and a VCU Music Department researcher that advances technology-assisted arts training and injury prevention for musicians.

Interactive Digital Summer Camp

Pine Cove Christian Camp is more than just a Texas summer camp. Nearly 30,000 children, youth, and families gather each summer to attend sessions at six Christian Youth Camps and three Christian Family Camps.

Shockoe worked with the Pine Cove staff to improve the way parents and family members interact with their kids and camps daily life. CampLife gives a unique ability to create accounts on any digital devices to fully feel like you are involved in your kid's summer life. With the creation of daily helpful notifications, photo and event sharing, staff bios review, audio and video streaming of every day events - parents truly feel like they are a part of their kids camp life making everyone's experience unforgettable.

"With the limited amount of time, Shockoe’s team found innovative ways to tackle urban problems - this is a great example of open data being truly a valuable resource that helps solve civic problems and create new business opportunities. We are on the right track in helping put Richmond City along with its residents first."
